Anything Going On Out There?
Posted by Beth

We are in the process of pulling together next issue's (August/September) news and new products. And folks, I have to say it is eerily quiet.

Are companies not merging, taking on new staff, winning awards or changing addresses? Are we working so close to the trade show with product introductions there is nothing to tease?

Are you all in Bimini enjoying the sun and sand?

Hmmm.

I'm thinking it's more along the lines of being too busy and not having a moment to bang out a press release. So let me give a word of advice. Scrapbook Retailer is easy- we don't need formal press releases or fancy words- that's our job.

Just send me a sentence or two about your new hire. Tell me that you are partnering with another vendor. Give me a heads up that a great new product is coming down the line but it's not ready yet.

Send us your news! Send to: editorial@scrapbookretailermagazine.com

Call mom. I miss you.--Beth

Not about to call you 'mom', Beth! Age & Experience[wise] we're siblings when it comes to Craft/Leisure Industry.

My gut feeling is that all the things you're asking about are going on--aka 'business as usual' in our & every other consumer-based industry.

That said, however, I have the hunch that some publishers & manufacturers [especially in the SB division] are experiencing their first taste of the 'cyclic' nature of crafts & crafters. And if that weren't enough, the state of the economy is figuring into the equation in an 'Industry' that always felt recession/depression-proof.

Like many scrapbook retailers, they are confronted with the need to draw in new customers--not only SB--with losing their 'regulars'. Like those savvy retailers, they're understanding that offering 'new products' has its place. But they are also beginning to use their existing publications & products to best advantage. Not becoming non-SB, but, rather, "SB Plus"!
